Maarifaa Global Privacy Policy
Maarifaa Global Pvt Ltd
Effective Date: 18 September 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Maarifaa Global Pvt Ltd ("Maarifaa", "we", "us" or "our") collects, uses, shares, stores and protects personal data when you use Maarifaa websites, applications, assessments, programmes and related Services.
Maarifaa serves users across African countries and may process personal data across borders. This Policy is a global baseline; rights and requirements may vary according to the country in which you are located and the law applicable to your data.
1. Who Is Responsible?
For Services provided directly by Maarifaa, Maarifaa Global Pvt Ltd is responsible for the processing described here, subject to the controller or processor role applicable to a particular activity. In school- or partner-led programmes, a school or local execution partner may have separate responsibilities.
2. Information We Collect
We may collect:
- name, email, phone, country, nationality and account information;
- school, grade or class, academic history, examination information, interests and education preferences;
- MAAP responses, assessment information, results, reports and recommendations;
- university, programme, scholarship, admissions and application or enquiry information;
- parent or guardian and consent or verification information where applicable;
- school, counsellor and partner professional or institutional information;
- payment status, transaction references and billing information;
- IP address, device or browser information, usage or log information, cookies and similar technologies; and
- information provided through support, events, communications and authorised partner activities.
3. How We Use Data
We may use data to provide and administer Services and accounts; deliver MAAP and academic decision-support information; help users discover courses, universities, scholarships and educational opportunities; facilitate authorised enquiries, applications and connections with institutions and partners; deliver school programmes, Career Guidance System services, counsellor certification, events and partner-led Services; process payments, refunds and support; send service and operational communications; send marketing where permitted; maintain security; prevent fraud; improve Services; and comply with law.
4. Legal Bases and Consent
Depending on jurisdiction and activity, processing may rely on consent, contract or requested pre-contractual steps, legal obligations, vital interests, legitimate interests where recognised by applicable law, or another lawful basis. Where consent is required, Maarifaa will request clear, specific consent and record it. Consent can be withdrawn where it is the legal basis; withdrawal does not affect prior lawful processing.
5. Children and Student Data
Maarifaa may serve students who are minors and applies additional safeguards for young users. Where applicable law requires parental or guardian consent or verification, it will be obtained before relevant processing. For example, Rwanda's applicable data-protection law requires consent from a holder of parental responsibility where the controller or processor knows data belongs to a child under 16, subject to applicable exceptions. See the Grievance, Complaints & Child/Parent Notice.
6. School Programmes, Student Data and Exports
In school programmes, the Career Guidance System may contain school information, student information, school and counsellor records, assessment responses and results, personalised reports and operational programme records. The legal role of Maarifaa, the school and any authorised local execution partner may differ depending on the activity and applicable law.
A school may request access to or an export of school-related information maintained within the platform, subject to applicable law and the rights of students and other individuals. Standard export functionality, where available, may be provided as part of the Service. A substantial custom extraction or technical data-preparation service may be subject to a separate Data Export Service Fee under the applicable commercial terms. Such a fee does not limit statutory privacy or data-access rights that cannot lawfully be conditioned on payment.
Exports may be limited, redacted or otherwise handled where necessary to protect another person's rights, comply with law, protect confidential information or preserve Maarifaa intellectual property.
7. Sharing Data
Data may be shared with educational institutions where needed for a requested enquiry, application or programme; authorised local execution partners where needed for an agreed Service; schools, parents or guardians or counsellors where appropriate and permitted; payment, hosting, communications, analytics, security and other service providers under appropriate arrangements; professional advisers or authorities where required or permitted by law; and relevant parties in a merger, acquisition or restructuring, subject to applicable safeguards.
Maarifaa does not sell personal data as a commodity and does not authorise local execution partners to sell or commercially exploit Maarifaa user data merely because they perform local execution.
8. Local Execution Partners
Local authorised partners may support school partnerships, Career Guidance System implementation, counsellor certification, local events, marketing and programme implementation. Depending on the activity, a partner may act as processor, independent controller or another legally recognised role. The role depends on the actual activity and applicable law.
9. International Transfers
Because Maarifaa is operated by an Indian company and serves users across Africa, personal data may be processed or accessed outside the user's country. Maarifaa will use appropriate legal, contractual, organisational and technical safeguards and comply with applicable transfer requirements.
10. Cookies
Cookies and similar technologies may be used for essential functionality, preferences, analytics and, where applicable, marketing. See the Maarifaa Cookies Policy.
11. Retention
We retain personal data only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes collected, Services, legal or contractual obligations, disputes, records and security, subject to applicable law.
12. Security
Maarifaa uses reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal data. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.
13. Your Rights
Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent, receive information, request portability or complain to a supervisory authority. Contact us; identity verification may be required. Where a request concerns school-managed or partner-managed processing, Maarifaa may coordinate with or direct the request to the responsible organisation.
14. Marketing
You can opt out of promotional communications at any time. Necessary service and transactional communications may continue.
15. Third Parties
Third-party services have their own terms and privacy practices.
16. Changes
We may update this Policy. We will publish the updated version with a new effective date and provide additional notice or obtain renewed consent where required.
